Fucking hell, this shit has fallen off hard. Just checked the stats. Props to all the people who still have enough faith in me to see if Ive updated this shit.
The Get Back is a Soul/ Funk monthly party that happens in my homegirl Mae's hometown of Las Vegas. Next time I'm there I'm so down to check it out. Meanwhile, here's an archive of some of the live recordings done by Z-Trip, Melo-D, & Nicodemus etc
Off to Melbourne to see A Tribe Called Quest. Will be doing some digging so I'll share what I find. Excited to have a good solid crew over there with me. Will report back in a week with photos and ting.
Shit. I havent been this excited in ages. If i had a tail it would be whipping you in the freaking legs. New instrumental album by El-p. From what I've heard it's sounding more like the Fantastic Damage/Funcrusherplus era Elproducto than new Elproducto. Definately deserves one of these --> :D
Easily my favourite record label of all time right? And if you hadn't heard already, they've just dropped this new boxset which you can get here ---> http://www.ninjatune.net/ninjashop/?shop=&type=LP&cat=0&code=ZENCD160X&by=6#ZENCD160X with the code inside, you can also order the individual 12s... The Ninja boys know how to set off geek heart strings for real hahahahaha
Ninja do the best compilations. If you didnt already have these in your collection, I would highly recommend sorting that out.
Funkungfusion
Funkjazzical Tricknology
Flexistentialism
Xen Cuts
Solesides Greatest Bumps
And if I could make my own ultimate Ninja/ Big Dada comp though (yeah might as well, this is a fanboy as fuck post anyway), it would go something along the lines of...

Check this Discogs Top 100 most expensive records list, as sold through their marketplace...
I knew there were crazy record collectors out there, but damn haha. Im not sure I would ever pay more than US$100 for a record myself.. best leave that stuff up to fate by digging and finding it for $10 haha

Sage Francis cracks me the hell up. Remember this one show he did around 2004 where he came out not giving a fuck, with a stereo on the ground and rhymed over some busted cd full of beats. CD even skipped at one point. There were only like 15 of us there and we were all thinking, fly 20 hrs all the way over here from the states just to throw down some budget ass show? Thats dope. hahahahahaha
New album dropped which is pretty average tbh, but whatever, the guy's funny. Two of my fav vids...
Big Boi's just released a mixtape. Who cares if I have the whole Outkast back catalogue, I still need this in my life for prospective road trips. Good move on his part, can't wait for the album to drop..

Discovered a new guy today. Just looking him up, I came across a ton of remixes like a rework of the classic Timbaland/Aaliyah track "If your girl only knew" which makes me wonder why I hadn't come across him earlier. Generally bracketed in dubstep, I'd disagree and say it was more post rock. Think Mogwai's droney guitars mixed with Burials lo fi drums. Forest Sword's debut LP Dagger Paths has just been added to the to list of things pick up this year.
What's with the lack of mixes lately? Since leaving RG records, I know I've been out of the loop, but I'm sure they aren't taken as seriously as they used to be. I'm not talking a Wale mixtape, or a Cudi one, I'm talking a Psychonauts Essential mix, or a Dj Krush Code 4109. That hearty good stuff.
Came across this lil beauty today which I never even knew existed.
Notes- the first CD is an interview of Geoff Barrow (the man behind Portishead’s music) and the second CD is a Mixed CD by Geoff Barrow and Andy Smith; it was made to introduce people to their influences and features the typical Portishead/Andy Smith type of DJ set, starting from slow heavy beats hip hop, moving to 60s soul featuring rare rock records from the 60s/early 70s, weird soundtracks, and anything to make you dance! This Mixed set is exactly the way it was in its original form, which is Un-edited (you cannot access the tracks it is one only track of 58 minutes).

Entroducing isnt overrated, lets just get that out of the way. Its just been thrashed to death. Shadow owns a good slice of my heart, but dayumm, he's taking my trust in him for granted innit. The crunk stuff he did was all good, took me a while to warm up to the idea, but I understand you can't be making the same kinds of beats 10 years on, plus the Funky Skunk mixtape was great.
Whenever Joel is over, him and Rodi are always guarented to be making heaps of noise next door, geek faces on, blasting stabs of samples to each other like some freaking A.D.D kids. I actually don't mind it, because every so often something beautiful happens, like this mixtape.
Starting a blog mid year is a good excuse to list my favourite releases of 2010 to date.
Flying Lotus- Cosmogramma Kinda obvious, but whatever, it's good.
The Roots - How I Got Over 9th album in and still staying true to their sound. I have to admit they did fall off for a minute, but this album really aint bad at all.
Onra- Long Distance 80s as fuck and I'm loving it. Shot Onra my Viet brother.
Gill Scott-Heron - I'm New Here If you thought his track "The Bottle" (1974) was dark, wait til you hear this shit. His first album in 13 years and produced by XL label owner Richard Russell.
The Bottle, for your reference. And because it doesn't hurt to revise something so classic ;)
The Boats - Sleepy Insect Music A one off collaboration between some guys I'm totally unfamiliar with, from labels I'm equally unfamiliar with, I was given this album by a friend who's good like that. Hooking me up with the goods by digging deeper than your average.
Bonobo- Black Sands I love Bonobo. I just wish I could tell him.
Blockhead- The Music Scene Blockhead came through!!! Didnt think he would to be honest. I hesitated putting on the album hoping like hell he didnt jump down the Diplo route (aka making an album dope as Florida and then, well you know the rest..)
Also, speaking of Blockhead, whats Aesop up to these days? A new one from him wouldn't hurt either.
Caribou- Swim Lovely.
The Black keys - Brothers Something about these guys I just love. The Blakroc collab album had some great moments, but the Black Keys in pure form is whats really up.
iTAL tEK - Midnight Colour Took a while to grow on me, but the drop in BPM with this album is interesting.
